Bradford County is located in the northeastern part of Florida and was established on December 21, 1858. The county was originally named New River County but was renamed in 1861 in honor of Captain Richard Bradford, who fought and died in the American Civil War. The county seat is Starke, which became an important transportation hub in the late 19th century, thanks to the Florida Railroad extending its tracks through the town.

The county's economy was primarily based on agriculture, particularly cotton, during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Timber production also played a significant role in the economy. After World War II, the region saw further development with the establishment of Camp Blanding, a major military training base that eventually became the state's primary National Guard training center.

One fun fact about Bradford County is its annual Strawberry Festival, which takes place in Starke. The festival celebrates the region's rich agricultural heritage, particularly its history of strawberry cultivation, and includes a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, live music, and, of course, plenty of delicious strawberry-themed treats.
