Broward County, located in southeast Florida, is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is the second-most populous county in the state. Established on April 30, 1915, the county was named after Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, the Governor of Florida from 1905 to 1909, who played a vital role in the state's early development.

Its beginnings can be traced back to the early 1900s, with the arrival of a railroad that connected the Atlantic coast region to the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, settlements expanded, and several towns were established, such as Pompano, Dania, and Deerfield. Fort Lauderdale serves as the county seat and is now one of the largest cities in Florida.

During World War II, Broward County saw an increase in military activity, which led to a significant growth in both its infrastructure and population after the war. The county played an essential part in Florida's postwar economic boom, thanks in part to easy access to major transportation routes and proximity to nearby Miami.

Broward County is known for its beautiful beaches, parks, and lively arts and culture scene. Notably, the county is home to the Everglades National Park, one of the largest protected areas in the United States, which serves as a sanctuary for rare and endangered species.

Fun Fact: The International Swimming Hall of Fame, located in Fort Lauderdale, showcases the history and achievements of notable swimmers, divers, and water polo players. It also features an Olympic-size swimming pool, diving well, and a water polo pool.
