Collier County, located in the great state of Florida, was established on May 8, 1923, and named in honor of advertising tycoon Barron G. Collier, who played a pivotal role in its development. The county was created by the Florida Legislature from parts of Lee County, and Barron Collier agreed to construct the Tamiami Trail, a major roadway connecting Tampa and Miami, as part of the arrangement for the establishment of the county.

The county covers an area of 2,305 square miles, making it the largest county in Florida by land area. The largest city and county seat is Naples, which is also one of Florida's wealthiest cities.

Historically, the region's economy was largely driven by agriculture, with major industries in citrus, tomato, and cucumber production. Today, its economy is more diverse, with a significant focus on tourism, real estate, and retail trade. Collier County is also home to several nature preserves and parks, such as the Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, which attracts a large number of tourists each year.

Fun Fact: Collier County is home to the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1989, which protects the habitat of the endangered Florida panther, the official state animal, and is one of the few remaining places in the United States where this elusive wildcat can be found.
