Escambia County, located in the northwestern part of the state of Florida, was established on July 21, 1821. It was one of the first two counties created in the state, along with St. Johns County. The county's name is derived from an indigenous American term "Shambia," which means "clear water," used by the Native Americans to describe the area's water bodies.

The city of Pensacola serves as the county seat, and its historical background can be traced back to its 1559 founding by Spanish explorer Don Tristn de Luna. Pensacola is also known as "the city of five flags" due to its history of governance under Spain, France, Britain, the Confederacy, and the United States, making it one of the oldest European settlements in the United States.

As for a fun fact, Escambia County boasts the Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, also known as the Cradle of Naval Aviation, covering nearly 24 square kilometers. NAS Pensacola is home to the world-famous Blue Angels, the US Navy's prestigious flight demonstration squadron. The National Naval Aviation Museum, which is one of the world's largest aviation museums, is also located here and attracts visitors each year interested in exploring the rich history of naval aviation.
