Glades County is located in the central southern part of the great state of Florida. Established on April 23, 1921, it was formed from the western portions of Palm Beach County and named after the neighboring Everglades, termed as the "Glades" by locals.

This region is famous for its rich history, including a significant Seminole Native American population that played a vital role in its development. The Seminole Indians of Florida clashed with European settlers in the 19th century during the Seminole Wars, with the third and final war ending in the 1850s. It was only after these wars that settlers gradually developed the land in and around what would become Glades County.

Agriculture, primarily cattle ranching, and the citrus industry became important factors in driving the economy of Glades County. Situated on the shores of Lake Okeechobee, the area has also become famous for its outdoor recreation opportunities, such as fishing, boating, and wildlife watching.

Fun fact: Glades County is home to the famous Gatorama, one of the oldest alligator farms in Florida. Established in 1957, Gatorama is a popular tourist destination that allows visitors to see alligators and crocodiles up close, watch live feedings, and even experience a thrilling "Gator Night Walk."
