Palm Beach County, located in the southeastern part of Florida, was established on April 30, 1909, after its separation from Dade County. It is the third-most populous county in Florida and the 25th-most populous in the United States. The county was named after its natural palm beaches along the Atlantic Ocean coastline.

Before European arrival, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Jeaga and the Ais tribes. By the early 1900s, the region began to develop due to Henry Flagler's efforts to extend the Florida East Coast Railway to the area. Flagler also built two luxurious hotels, The Royal Poinciana and The Breakers, which helped establish Palm Beach as a tourist destination and winter playground for the wealthy.

Agriculture played a significant role in the county's growth, including the production of winter vegetables, sugarcane, and citrus fruits. The introduction of rail service facilitated the shipment of agricultural commodities from the region to markets across the United States.

In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the construction of the Herbert Hoover Dike, offering flood protection for the region and ensuring the continued development and safety of the county.

Today, Palm Beach County's economy is diverse with a significant emphasis on tourism, agriculture, and services industry. The area is home to numerous golf courses, pristine beaches, and cultural attractions, including the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and the Norton Museum of Art.

Fun fact: Palm Beach County is known for holding the world-renowned Palm Beach International Polo Season, which is the longest-running polo event in the world, spanning from late December to April each year at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington.
