Pasco County, located in the great state of Florida, was created in 1887 from the southern part of Hernando County. It was named after Samuel Pasco, a U.S. Senator from Florida who played a significant role in the county's formation. Covering an area of 868 square miles, Pasco County is part of the Tampa Bay Area which lies along the Gulf of Mexico on the West Central Coast of Florida.

The early inhabitants of Pasco County were Native American tribes such as the Tocobaga and the Timucua, whose presence dates back to around 10,000 years ago. The area was later explored by Spanish and European settlers in the 16th century. During the 19th century, the county was characterized by farming, ranching, and maritime industries.

A massive phosphate boom in the late 1800s led to economic growth and an influx of new settlers, shaping the modern Pasco County that we know today. Over the years, Pasco County has transformed from an area largely focused on agriculture and phosphate mining to a growing urbanized region with diverse industries.

A fun fact about Pasco County is that it is known for its numerous lush parks and nature preserves, offering a bounty of outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. One such destination is the Starkey Wilderness Park, which contains over 8,000 acres of land for hiking, biking, and equestrian activities. The park was developed as a result of a unique partnership between the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Pasco County a testament to the county's dedication to preserving its natural beauty.
