Sarasota County, located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Florida, boasts a rich and diverse history. Before the arrival of Europeans, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Calusa and the Timucua. Spanish explorers made contact with these tribes in the early 16th century, but it wasn't until 1763 when the region was ceded to the British that the area saw significant European development.

In 1821, Florida became a U.S. territory, and Sarasota County was eventually established on July 1, 1921, after being divided from the southern part of Manatee County. The city of Sarasota, the county seat, saw significant growth during the real estate boom of the 1920s, only to be hit hard by the Great Depression in the 1930s. However, the economy recovered thanks to the influx of tourists and retirees after World War II, and the area continued to grow in the latter half of the 20th century.

Today, Sarasota County is renowned for its beautiful white-sand beaches, cultural attractions, and thriving arts community. A fun fact about the region is that Siesta Key Beach, located in the county, is famous for its 99% pure quartz sand, which stays cool underfoot even on the hottest days. This unique characteristic has earned Siesta Key Beach multiple awards, including being named the 2017 TripAdvisor's No. 1 beach in the United States, and the No. 5 beach in the World.
