Bacon County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Georgia. It was established on July 27, 1914, and was named in honor of Augustus Octavius Bacon, a prominent U.S. Senator from Georgia who served from 1895 to 1914. The county seat and largest city is Alma, which is also known as Georgia's blueberry capital given its abundant blueberry production.

Before Bacon County was established, the region was originally part of Appling and Pierce counties. The economy of Bacon County has historically been heavily based on agriculture, specifically tobacco, cotton, corn, and more recently, blueberries. This agricultural history has contributed immensely to the development and growth of the county.

One fun fact about Bacon County is its annual Georgia Blueberry Festival. This two-day event takes place in Alma, and attracts thousands of visitors every year to celebrate and promote the blueberry industry. Visitors can enjoy various activities, such as musical concerts, arts and crafts, a 5K run, a blueberry cooking contest, and much more. The festival has become a highly anticipated event for locals and tourists alike, putting the spotlight on this small and vibrant corner of southeastern Georgia.
