Banks County is a scenic rural county located in the northeastern part of Georgia, USA. It was established on December 11, 1858, and named in honor of Dr. Richard E. Banks, a Georgian surgeon who made significant contributions to the medical field during the American Revolution and Cherokee Removal.

The county's landscape boasts the Blue Ridge Mountains' southernmost foothills and is part of the Chattahoochee River basin. Agriculture has been the backbone of Banks County's economy, with cotton, corn, and livestock farming as major sources of income during its early years. In more recent times, poultry farming and industries have emerged as significant economic contributors.

The county seat, Homer, was chartered in 1859 and is home to the historic Banks County Courthouse, built in 1864. Homer is considered the nucleus of the county's commercial and political activities.

Now for a fun fact: Banks County is known for the "Battle of the Chopped." This unusual event took place during the American Civil War when a group of Northern soldiers were found stealing food behind enemy lines. In an attempt to escape, they encountered a group of pigs and became engaged in a wild chase with them, which then became a local legend. The pigs later became known as "Yankee Chased Hogs," and today, a historical marker stands at the site commemorating the strange encounter.
