Brantley County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Georgia. Established on November 2, 1920, it was named in honor of Benjamin Daniel Brantley, a prominent citizen of the area and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. The county has a rich history in the timber industry, agriculture, and the turpentine trade.

Prior to the establishment of Brantley County, the region was occupied by Native American tribes, such as the Muskogean and Timucuan tribes. The Spanish explorers were the first Europeans to make contact with the native inhabitants in the 16th century, followed by the French and British settlers in the 17th century. In 1733, the English established the colony of Georgia, and the area that would become Brantley County was included in the historic colonial parishes of St. David and St. Patrick.

During the American Revolutionary War, the region did not see much activity. It was mainly used for farming, timber harvesting, and turpentine production throughout the 19th century. In the mid-1800s, the city of Waynesville served as an important seat of government, and the county courthouse was located there. The establishment of the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in the 1890s significantly enhanced the region's economic and social development.

Today, Brantley County is mainly rural and has a population of around 19,000 residents. It boasts a beautiful landscape filled with rivers, wildlife habitats, and lush forests, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. One fun fact about Brantley County is that it is home to the Okefenokee Swamp, one of the largest freshwater wetlands in the United States, which covers approximately 700 square miles and attracts tourists for its unique ecosystem, flora, and fauna.
