Catoosa County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Established on December 5, 1853, the county was named after "Catoosa Springs," a Cherokee Indian term for "two great hills" or "mountains coming together." The county was created from a portion of Walker and Whitfield counties and has its county seat in Ringgold.

The region has a rich history dating back to the times when Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee and Creek, inhabited the lands. European settlers began populating the area in the late 18th and early 19th centuries after the Cherokee Removal and the Treaty of New Echota in 1835.

During the Civil War, the Battle of Ringgold Gap took place in Catoosa County on November 27, 1863. The Confederate Army, led by General Patrick Cleburne, managed to defend the gap and ensure the safe passage of their supply trains.

The county has a unique geological feature called the Ringgold Gap, a natural pass through the Appalachian Mountains. The Western & Atlantic Railroad, which played a crucial role in the development and growth of the county, was built through the Ringgold Gap in the 1840s.

One fun fact about Catoosa County is "The Georgia Winery," the state's first farm winery established in 1983. Located in the county, the Georgia Winery offers various award-winning wines and has become a popular destination for wine enthusiasts, making it an essential part of the region's economic growth and tourism.
