Coffee County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Georgia, USA. It was established on February 9, 1854, and named in honor of General John E. Coffee, a prominent Georgia planter and military figure who fought alongside General Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812.

The county was initially inhabited by Native American tribes before European settlers arrived in the late 1700s and early 1800s, particularly the Creek and Seminole Indians. The region's economy was primarily driven by agriculture, with cotton being the primary cash crop. However, the decline in the cotton industry eventually led to the rise of other crops, particularly tobacco and vegetables.

The city of Douglas serves as the county seat, having been created in 1855, and named after Stephen A. Douglas, a prominent Senator from Illinois. The county has played a fascinating role in aviation history as well. Douglas Municipal Airport, now known as Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport, was the location of an Army Air Corps training base during World War II.

One fun fact about Coffee County is that it is home to one of the world's most extensive collections of antique agricultural equipment, housed in the Heritage Station Museum in Douglas. This unique exhibit showcases the rich agricultural past of the county and the significant role it has played in the development of modern farming practices.
