Cook County is a small county located in the southern part of Georgia, United States. It was created on July 30, 1918, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly, and is named in honor of Philip Cook, a decorated Civil War General and Georgia Secretary of State from 1868-1871. The county seat is Adel, which was incorporated in 1889.

Historically, Cook County was a part of the ancestral lands of the Native American Creek and Timucuan tribes. As European colonization expanded into the region, these native populations were pushed out over time. In the early 19th century, settlers of European descent began to establish farms and plantations, cultivating various crops such as cotton and tobacco.

The creation of Cook County from Berrien County in 1918 led to the growth and development of infrastructure and economic opportunities in the area. Agriculture has remained an essential component of the county's economy, with industries like timber, pecans, cotton, and vegetables playing large roles.
