Crisp County is located in the state of Georgia, United States, and was created on August 17, 1905, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. It was formed from portions of Dooly County, and its county seat is the city of Cordele. The county is named in honor of Charles Frederick Crisp, a prominent Georgian lawyer, judge, and politician who served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1891 to 1895.

One of the key historical developments that shaped Crisp County is the establishment of the Georgia Southwestern Railroad, which made its way through the region in the 1880s. This led to the creation of Cordele as a major transportation hub and greatly contributed to the growth and prosperity of the county.

Crisp County is home to several attractions, including the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, which hosts an 18-hole golf course, a museum, and Lake Blackshear, a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The county is also known for the annual Watermelon Days Festival in Cordele, which celebrates the region's agricultural heritage and is the oldest festival of its kind in Georgia, founded in 1949.

As a fun fact, Crisp County is the birthplace of legendary golfer Nancy Lopez, who was born in Torrance, California, but raised in Roswell, New Mexico. She was named the LPGA Rookie of the Year in 1977, LPGA Player of the Year three times, and inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1987.
