Dodge County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on October 26, 1870. Named after William Earle Dodge, a prominent businessman and philanthropist from New York, the county was formed from portions of Montgomery, Pulaski, and Telfair counties. Eastman, incorporated on December 10, 1872, serves as the county seat and is named in honor of W.P. Eastman, a friend of William E. Dodge, and one of the county's early settlers.

Primarily an agricultural region, Dodge County's economy was initially based on cotton and corn production. As the region thrived, sawmills and turpentine stills played a significant role in the local economy.

In the 20th century, the county's agricultural focus shifted towards tobacco, and eventually, it became a leading producer of the crop. By the late 20th century, though, the focus pivoted again, this time concentrating on peanuts and various other crops.

A fun fact about Dodge County is that it is home to the annual Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival. Held in Abbeville, Georgia, this event features various activities and competitions centered around wild hog hunting. Visitors can enjoy arts and crafts, a parade, and live entertainment, making it an exciting local attraction.
