Grady County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Georgia, in the United States. Created on August 17, 1905, the county was named after Henry W. Grady, a prominent journalist, and editor of the Atlanta Constitution, who also played a significant role in the New South Movement.

The county seat of Grady County is Cairo, sometimes referred to as "Syrup City" due to its production of cane syrup from the sugar cane crops grown in the area. Prior to the establishment of the county, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Creek and the Miccosukee.

The economy and development of Grady County were largely based on agriculture during the early years, specifically cotton, which thrived in the region's fertile soil. The county also played a role in the Civil War, with several small skirmishes taking place within its boundaries.
