Jeff Davis County is located in the southeastern part of the state of Georgia in the United States. It was established on August 18, 1905, and named in honor of Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. The county seat is Hazlehurst, which was incorporated on August 22, 1891. Hazlehurst was named after Colonel George Hazlehurst, a civil engineer who helped build the Macon & Brunswick Railroad.

Prior to its establishment, the land was inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Creek and Seminole, before European settlers began arriving in the 18th and 19th centuries. Agriculture played a significant role in the county's development, with cotton being the primary crop. With time, the focus shifted to other crops like tobacco, corn, and vegetables, and the county saw the growth of the timber industry as well.

Today, Jeff Davis County continues to be largely rural, with a focus on agriculture and forestry. The county's economy benefits from industries like manufacturing, retail trade, and education, and healthcare services.
