Lee County is located in the great state of Georgia, USA. It was founded on December 11, 1826, and named after the prominent American Revolutionary War figure, General Robert E. Lee. The county seat is Leesburg, which was established in 1872. Lee County is part of the Albany, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Located in the southwestern region of Georgia, it covers an area of about 362 square miles. Initially inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Creek and Cherokee, European settlers started coming to the area in the early 19th century. Agriculture, particularly cotton farming, played a vital role in the economic development of the county.

A fun fact about Lee County is that it is home to the Kinchafoonee Creek, which offers recreational activities such as canoeing, fishing, and swimming, drawing visitors from around the region. The creek's name comes from a Creek Indian word, likely meaning "clear water."
