.Lincoln County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established in 1796. It is named in honor of General Benjamin Lincoln, a Revolutionary War hero who participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill and accepted General Cornwallis's sword in surrender at the Battle of Yorktown. Lincoln County is nestled in the northeastern area of Georgia and has its county seat in Lincolnton.
With a rich history dating back to the Creek and Cherokee Native American tribes, Lincoln County later played a role in American history as the site of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Kettle Creek. This lesser-known battle took place on February 14, 1779, and resulted in a significant victory for the Patriots, boosting morale and attracting more recruits to their cause.
The county also saw action during the Civil War, specifically in Lincolnton, where goods were produced to aid the Confederacy. The manufacturing facilities, including the Confederate Pistol Factory and Tallassee Iron Works, were targets of the Union Army, but never fell under their control.
