Union County, situated in the great state of Georgia, was established on December 3, 1832. It was formed from portions of Cherokee and Lumpkin counties and was named in honor of the federal union of states. The county is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. Blairsville serves as the county seat, which was established in 1835 and named after Francis Preston Blair, a prominent journalist, politician, and advocate for the administration of President Andrew Jackson.

Gold played a significant role in Union County's early history after the first discovery in 1828, which eventually led to the Georgia Gold Rush. Thousands of miners flocked to the area in search of fortune. Union County was also home to the Cherokee people before their forced removal during the infamous Trail of Tears in the late 1830s.

Agriculture, particularly corn and apple production, has been a key part of the county's economy for many years. It also hosts several exciting events and attractions, such as the Sorghum Festival, the Mountain Heritage Festival, and the green meadows of Butternut Creek Golf Course.

One fun fact about Union County is the presence of Brasstown Bald, which, at 4,784 feet, is the highest point in Georgia. It offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and is a popular spot for tourists and hikers.
