Walker County is located in the northwestern part of the great state of Georgia, and it was established on December 18, 1833. This county is part of the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a rich historical background. It was named in honor of Major Freeman Walker, a distinguished lawyer, and U.S. Senator from the state of Georgia.

Significant historical events within Walker County include battles that took place during the Civil War, particularly the Battle of Chickamauga. This fierce battle, fought on September 19-20, 1863, was the second largest battle of the Civil War and resulted in a Confederate victory.

One fun fact about Walker County is that it is home to the popular tourist attraction, Rock City Gardens, which is located atop Lookout Mountain.
