Ware County, located in the great state of Georgia, was created on December 15, 1824, as the state's sixty-third county. It was named after Nicholas Ware, a United States Senator from Georgia and the first mayor of Augusta. The county seat of Ware County is Waycross, a city known for its rich history, culture, and economic importance in the region.

The land of Ware County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Creek and Seminole. European settlers, primarily English and Irish, established the first permanent settlements in the area during the early 1800s. The development of the county was facilitated by the construction of the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad, which connected Waycross to other major cities in Georgia and the southeastern United States.

The economy in Ware County has historically been based on agriculture, and the county still thrives on the cultivation and processing of various crops. Forestry and timber products have also played an important role in Ware County's economy.

A fun fact about Ware County is that it is home to Okefenokee Swamp, the largest blackwater swamp in North America, covering over 438,000 acres. Okefenokee Swamp is a critical wetland and wildlife refuge, providing habitats to many endangered and threatened species.
