Wilkinson County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on May 11, 1803. Named after General James Wilkinson, an officer in the American Revolutionary War and the Mexican-American War, the county originally consisted of lands ceded from Creek Indian territory in the Treaty of Fort Wilkinson in 1802.

The county played a significant role during the American Civil War. Several battles took place in and around Wilkinson County, with both Union and Confederate troops passing through its borders. It served as a strategic put-stop as troops made their way through Georgia.

The geographical location of Wilkinson County is in the Central Savannah River Area, which presents visitors with picturesque landscapes ranging from lush, green countryside to intimate waterways. With a population of around 10,000 inhabitants, the county retains a tranquil, small-town charm.

A fun fact about this region of the USA is that it's home to the "Bottoms," a unique land feature consisting of several swampy areas, including part of the Oconee River Bottoms. These "Bottoms" provide diverse ecosystems, attracting an abundance of wildlife and offering recreational opportunities such as fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching for both residents and visitors alike.
