Carroll County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established on January 15, 1851. Named after Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the county is situated in the western part of the state.

Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, the area experienced increased population growth when European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century. The county seat, Carrollton, was founded in 1855 when the first courthouse was built. Later, in 1869, Carrollton was renamed Carroll, as it remains today. Growth continued throughout the 19th century, largely driven by agriculture and the expansion of railroads.

Agriculture has played an essential role in Carroll County's history and remains its backbone today. The county is a prominent producer of corn, soybeans, and livestock, playing a significant role in the state's agricultural output.

One fun fact about Carroll County is that it is home to the Sauk Rail Trail, a popular, scenic 33-mile multi-use trail that stretches from Swan Lake State Park in Carroll County to the Des Moines River in Sac County. The trail offers a beautiful and diverse landscape for biking, hiking, and bird watching enthusiasts alike.
