Cedar County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established on December 21, 1837, as part of the Wisconsin Territory before statehood. Named after the Cedar River, which was reportedly named for the red cedar trees that lined its banks, the county was later included in the Iowa Territory on July 4, 1838, and Iowa achieved statehood in 1846.

Tipton, the county seat, was founded in 1840, named after General John Tipton, a distinguished officer who served in the War of 1812 and the Black Hawk War. Primarily an agricultural community, Cedar County thrived on farming activities, with rich and fertile soil that, over time, has been particularly well-suited for growing corn and soybeans.

One fun fact about Cedar County is that it is home to the annual Cedar County Fair, an event that showcases the county's agricultural heritage and offers a variety of entertainment activities, such as tractor pulls, livestock exhibitions, carnival rides, and art exhibits. The Cedar County Fair is a popular attraction for both locals and visitors, promoting a sense of community and celebrating the region's rich history.
