Dallas County is located in the great state of Iowa, in the Midwestern United States. It was founded in 1846 and named after George M. Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States who served under President James K. Polk. The county is part of the Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Initially, Dallas County was a mostly rural area with agricultural activities being the major source of income for its residents. The fertile lands along the Raccoon and North Raccoon rivers drew settlers to the region, and the population grew significantly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Over the years, Dallas County has transformed into a mix of rural and urban landscapes. Its close proximity to the state's capital, Des Moines, has played a significant role in its development, and the opening of Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 during the mid-20th century has provided easier access to the region. Today, the county has a diverse economy that includes agriculture, manufacturing, retail, technology, and renewable energy industries.

One fun fact about Dallas County is that it is home to the historic Racoon River Valley Trail, a 90-mile-long recreational trail that meanders through the breathtaking rural landscape of central Iowa. The trail connects 14 small towns in three counties, offering a scenic route for biking, walking, and other outdoor activities. The trail features the iconic Redfield Bridge, a former railroad bridge that was rehabilitated in 2010 as part of the trail system, offering spectacular views of the Middle Raccoon River.
