Delaware County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established on December 20, 1837, and officially organized on October 1, 1841. The county was named in honor of the Delaware tribe, a native American tribe that originally resided in the eastern coastal regions of the United States. Delaware County's first white settlers arrived in 1836, marking the beginning of its rich history.

The county seat, Manchester, was named after a city in England, and was incorporated on February 6, 1856. Early settlers in Delaware County were primarily farmers, traders, and merchants who set up businesses near waterways like the Maquoketa River. These waterways were essential transportation routes for moving goods and people during the early years of the county's development.

Delaware County played a part in Iowa's early rail history, with the Illinois Central Railroad reaching Manchester and Delaware County in 1859. This development bolstered the local economy and led to further growth and industrialization in the region.

Today, Delaware County is home to a mix of agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and service industries, with the picturesque scenery of northeastern Iowa offering plenty of recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Fun fact: The annual Delaware County Fair, held since 1860, has grown to be the largest event in the county, attracting over 45,000 visitors each year. The fair showcases agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, live music, and carnival attractions, making it a well-loved tradition in the region.
