Franklin County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established on January 15, 1851. It is part of the Midwestern United States and occupies an area of approximately 583 square miles. The county was named after the esteemed American statesman, scientist, and writer, Benjamin Franklin.

The first settlers arrived in the county around 1852 and began cultivating the fertile land. During the second half of the 19th century, the area saw significant development owing to the expansion of the railroads, which bolstered the local agricultural industry. Franklin County is largely known for its production of corn and soybeans, as well as raising livestock.

The county seat of Franklin County is Hampton, which is also the largest city in the county. Some of the other cities and towns in the county include Ackley, Alexander, Coulter, Geneva, Hansell, Latimer, Popejoy, and Sheffield.

Fun fact: In addition to its rich agricultural heritage, Franklin County is home to Beeds Lake State Park, a popular recreational destination. The park features a nearly 100-year-old limestone-faced dam, which was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, showcasing the area's historical engineering feats.
