Harrison County, located in the western part of the great state of Iowa, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment on January 15, 1851. The county was named in honor of the ninth President of the United States, William Henry Harrison, who was a decorated general and an influential political figure.

One of the earliest settlements in Harrison County was the small community of Magnolia, which was first settled in 1846. Initially, its economy depended on agriculture, where settlers focused on crops like wheat, corn, and potatoes, as well as raising livestock such as pigs and cattle.

By the 1860s, the railroad network began to expand, promoting the growth of towns like Logan, the county seat established in 1867, and Missouri Valley, one of the county's largest cities. The railroads made it easier for settlers to transport their goods and products to nearby markets, which in turn fostered the development of Harrison County.

As the population grew, Harrison County remained committed to both farming and livestock as its primary economic industries. However, over time, it diversified its economy, turning to manufacturing, construction, and health care, among others.

An interesting fun fact about Harrison County, Iowa, is that it is home to the Loess Hills, a unique geological formation that spans over 200 miles along the Missouri River. The Loess Hills were formed by wind-blown soils during the last Ice Age, and the region is characterized by its steep rolling terrain and unique prairie ecosystem. This natural wonder attracts tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, who visit the area to hike, camp, and explore its beauty.
