Iowa County is located in the eastern-central part of the great state of Iowa, within the Midwest region of the United States. Established on February 17, 1843, it was named after the Iowa River, which itself was named after the native Ioway people who inhabited the area before European settlers arrived.

The county is rooted in primarily rural and agricultural beginnings, like much of the state. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the region experienced growth in its agricultural industry, specializing in corn, soybeans, and livestock farming. With the construction of railroads, small settlements and towns began to establish within the county, connecting it to other parts of the state as well as the wider country.

One notable town in Iowa County is Amana, which is located in the Amana Colonies a group of seven villages founded by German settlers in the 1850s. The Amana Colonies, initially a religious and communal society, are now a popular tourist destination for their unique German-inspired architecture, rich cultural heritage, and signature events, such as Oktoberfest and Amana Popcorn Festival. This fascinating historical settlement serves as a fun fact, showcasing a distinct element of cultural diversity in this region of Iowa.
