Jackson County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Iowa, and was established in December 1837 as one of the original Iowa Territory counties. It was named after President Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, who served from 1829 to 1837. The county occupies an area of approximately 650 square miles and has a range of landscapes, such as rolling hills, rivers, and wooded areas.

The county's history revolves around farming and agriculture, which has remained a significant part of its economy. The first permanent white settlement in the area was in 1835, and the county seat of Jackson was established in the bustling town of Andrew. However, in 1873, the county seat was moved to Maquoketa, which remains the largest city in the county to this day.

One fun fact about the region is the Maquoketa Caves State Park, which is a popular destination in Jackson County. The park features a unique network of caves and caverns, some of which are accessible for exploration by visitors. Additionally, the park offers hiking trails, picnic facilities, and picturesque views of the surrounding countryside, making it an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
