Kossuth County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established in 1851 and named after Lajos Kossuth, a Hungarian statesman and freedom fighter who visited the United States in the early 1850s seeking support for Hungarian independence from Austrian control. Kossuth County is the largest county in the state, covering an area of approximately 972 square miles.

The first European settlers arrived in Kossuth County in the mid-19th century, mainly of German, Irish, and English descent. Algona, the largest city in the county and its county seat, was founded in 1854 by two brothers, Asa and Ambrose Call. The region saw significant growth in the latter half of the 19th century, with the arrival of railroads and immigrants in search of fertile farmland.

Agriculture has played a significant role in the economic development of Kossuth County, with corn, soybeans, and livestock being the most prevalent agricultural products. The county is known for its rich, fertile soil and generally flat landscape, making it conducive to farming. One of the largest employers in the county is the agricultural processing industry.

One fun fact about Kossuth County is that it is home to the world's largest Cheeto, an oversized cheese curl weighing over an ounce that was discovered by a local Iowan in 2003. It is now displayed at the Potato and Corn Palace in Algona, bringing in curious tourists and adding a bit of quirky charm to this region of the United States.
