Linn County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Iowa and was established on December 21, 1837. Named after U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn of Missouri, the county was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes before European settlers arrived in the early 19th century. Linn County played a significant role during Iowa's early statehood as a center for agriculture, manufacturing, and the railroad industry. The county seat of Cedar Rapids was founded in 1841, and the city's growth was spurred by the arrival of the railroad in the 1850s.

A significant event in the county's history was the Great Flood of 1965, which caused widespread damage and led to improved flood controls in Cedar Rapids. The city was again challenged by major flooding in 2008, prompting further improvements in flood management.

A fun fact about Linn County is related to the charming town of Mount Vernon, which is located within the county. The town hosts an annual Heritage Days celebration, with music, food, and various events showcasing the region's rich history and culture. The celebration includes a delightful antique car parade which highlights the town's appreciation for preserving its unique heritage.
