Sac County was officially organized on October 13, 1856. The county seat is Sac City.

One fun fact about Sac County is that it is home to the World's Largest Popcorn Ball, measuring 12 feet in diameter, weighing 5,000 pounds, and containing over 900,000 individual popcorn kernels. The popcorn ball can be found in Sac City, where it was created in 2016 at the Noble Popcorn Plant.
