Blaine, a former U.S. Secretary of State and a one-time presidential candidate. The county seat is Hailey, and other prominent cities include Ketchum, Sun Valley, and Bellevue. The county has a rich history of mining, ranching, and tourism.

In the late 19th century, Blaine County was an important destination for silver and lead mining. In 1936, Sun Valley, a famous ski resort in the county, was developed by Union Pacific Railroad. The resort introduced the world's first chairlifts, revolutionizing winter sports and giving rise to the modern skiing industry. Sun Valley was frequented by celebrities, politicians, and international guests, turning the region into a popular tourist destination. Ernest Hemingway, the renowned American author, spent considerable time in the county, ultimately choosing to be buried in Ketchum's cemetery.
