Bonner County, located in the northern region of Idaho, was established on February 21, 1907. The county's name honors Edwin L. Bonner, an early ferry operator and local pioneer. The vast region of Bonner County, covering approximately 1,919 square miles, boasts a diverse landscape, ranging from fertile valleys to majestic mountains and scenic lakes.

Before the arrival of European settlers, the territory was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Kalispel and Kootenai peoples. In the early 19th century, the area drew the attention of fur traders and explorers like David Thompson, who set up a trading post named Kullyspell House in 1809.

As pioneers journeyed westward, Samuel P. Robbins built the first white settlement in the county, a farm in 1866. The construction of the Northern Pacific Railway in the 1880s, followed by the Great Northern Railway, boosted the county's timber industry and led to an influx of settlers. Incorporated towns such as Sandpoint, Priest River, and Kootenai were born during this period.

Bonner County continues to flourish today with its mix of thriving businesses, rich culture, and numerous recreational opportunities. A fun fact about the county is that it's home to Idaho's largest and deepest lake, Lake Pend Oreille, which covers 148 square miles with depths reaching 1,150 feet. This stunning lake attracts tourists for its fishing, boating, and scenic beauty, making it one of the highlights of the region.
