Camas County, located in the great state of Idaho, has a rich history that contributes to its unique character. Established on February 6, 1917, Camas County was named after the Camassia, a plant native to the area with an edible bulb that was a significant food source for Native Americans and early settlers. The county is situated in the south-central region of Idaho and has an area of 1,079 square miles. Fairfield, its county seat, was established in the same year as the county's inception.

Camas County has always been considered primarily a ranching and farming community. Its early history saw the area occupied by the Shoshone and Bannock Native American tribes, who were known to engage in trading and communal hunting activities. In the late 1800s, settlers began to arrive in search of farmland and the mining opportunities that Camas County had to offer.

One fun fact about Camas County is that it's home to Soldier Mountain Ski Area, which was once owned by actor Bruce Willis. He donated the mountain to a local non-profit organization in 2012. The ski area offers a range of activities that attract outdoor enthusiasts, making it an important recreational and tourism destination for the region.
