Clark County is located in the southeastern part of the state of Idaho, and it was established on February 1, 1919, named for Sam K. Clark, an early settler and the first state senator from the county. The county seat is the city of Dubois, which also happens to be the largest city in the county.

Clark County has a rich history, which includes Native American tribes such as the Shoshone and Bannock that inhabited the region long before European settlers arrived. Expansion brought fur trappers, miners, and pioneers during the mid to late 19th century, with many of them following the route of the Oregon Trail. As the United States expanded westward, the area turned into a hub for cattle ranching and agriculture, which remain important to the local economy today.

A fun fact about Clark County is its unique geological location. It's home to the Camas National Wildlife Refuge and Hell's Half Acre Lava Field, which together provide a diverse landscape of wetlands and basalt lava formations. This attracts a wide array of wildlife and makes it a great location for nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and hikers.
