Gooding County is located in the south-central region of the great state of Idaho. It was established on January 28, 1913, and named in honor of Frank R. Gooding, a prominent local businessman, senator, and the seventh Governor of Idaho. The county covers an area of approximately 734 square miles and has a diverse landscape that includes fertile farmlands as well as canyons and cliffs along the Snake River.

Gooding County's rich history dates back thousands of years, with Native American tribes such as the Shoshone and Bannock having established settlements in the area. European settlers, mainly trappers and traders, began arriving in the early 1800s. The region saw significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th century, primarily due to the arrival of the railroad and the expansion of the sheep and cattle industries.

One of the key towns in Gooding County is Gooding, which serves as the county seat. Other towns include Hagerman, Wendell, and Bliss. The county boasts several notable parks and protected areas, such as the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, which is home to over 200 different species of fossils the largest concentration of fossils in Hagerman are from the Hagerman Horse, an early ancestorse of the modern horse, and this is the reason why the area is often referred to as the "Valley of the Horses."

Fun fact: Gooding County is home to the Thousand Springs State Park, which is a picturesque natural area famous for its numerous natural springs emerging from the Snake River Canyon. This park is part of the larger Thousand Springs Scenic Byway, which crosses 67 miles through the region and offers breathtaking views of the valley, showcasing several of Idaho's most beautiful landscapes.
