Idaho County is a rural area located in the north-central region of the great state of Idaho. It was created on February 4, 1864, as part of the Idaho Territory, making it one of the original counties of the state. Idaho County is the largest county by area in Idaho, spreading over 8,503 square miles.

The region was initially inhabited by the Nez Perce Native American tribe. In the early 19th century, the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through Idaho County, and fur trappers and traders later established their presence in the area. The discovery of gold in the 1860s led to a massive influx of miners and the creation of the county.

The county seat is Grangeville, largely serving as an agricultural community. The growth of Idaho County, however, was primarily driven by mining, which kept the pace until the end of the 19th century. Today the economy is more diversified, with agriculture and tourism playing significant roles.

As for a fun fact about Idaho County, there are over 4,000 miles of rivers and streams in the region, including the Snake River, which runs along the county's border. The Snake River is known for its Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America. Hells Canyon is a popular spot for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking, attracting nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts from all over the country.
