Lemhi County is located in east-central Idaho and is the second least populous county in the state. As of 2019, the county had a population of 7,983, with an overall population density of just 2.7 people per square mile.

Demographically, Lemhi County is predominantly White (93.5%), followed by Native American (3.3%), Hispanic or Latino (1.9%), and African American (1.2%). The median household income is approximately $38,000 and 24.6% of families live below the poverty line.

There are only two towns in the entire county, Salmon City and Leadore. Both have a small population of less than 1,000 people each.
