The Official Idaho State Bird
State Bird
Mountain Bluebird

The Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides) is a member of the thrush family (Turdidae) and is native to western North America. It is the official state bird of Idaho. This species is the most widespread bluebird in North America, making its home in open woodlands, meadows, and grasslands.

The Mountain Bluebird is an important symbol of the natural beauty of Idaho, and its importance to the state began in 1931 when it was designated as the official state bird. Since then, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has taken measures to ensure the species' continued existence in the state. The department has established special bluebird trails and created a Bluebird Recovery Program to monitor and protect the bird’s habitat. The Idaho Audubon Society also works to raise awareness of the bird and its habitat needs, and to provide information about how to protect them.
