The Official Idaho State Quarters

Idaho State Motto: Esto perpetua: Let it be perpetual
Front of the US quarter dollar coin   Idaho State Quarter

The Idaho state quarter was created by John Michael Hawkins and was released into circulation on January 28, 2007. The design of the quarter features a Peregrine Falcon in flight over the state's landscape and a silhouette of the state with the words "Esto Perpetua" (Latin for "Let it be forever") below. The various symbols and meanings behind the design of the Idaho quarter include:

-The Peregrine Falcon: This bird symbolizes the state's wild and rugged terrain.

- The mountain ranges: These symbolize the Rocky Mountains, which are located in Idaho.

- The rivers: They represent the Snake, Clearwater and Salmon Rivers, which are all part of Idaho's landscape.

- The pines: The trees represent Idaho's vast forests.

- The star: It symbolizes the state's official nickname, "The Gem State", due to its abundance of natural resources.

- The Esto Perpetua inscription: This Latin phrase translates to "Let it be forever", and it serves as a reminder of Idaho's commitment to preserving its natural beauty.

The second Idaho State Quarter

The Idaho National Park quarter was issued in 2018 as part of the U.S. Mint's "America the Beautiful Quarters" series. The reverse design of the coin features a scenic view of the Craters of the Moon, a lava field in the Snake River Plain of Idaho. A tree-lined valley is in the foreground, while three cinder cones are visible in the background. The crescent moon is represented in the upper left corner of the design. The inscriptions "Craters of the Moon," "Idaho," "2018," and "E Pluribus Unum" are also included on the coin.

The Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve was created in 1924 by President Calvin Coolidge as a way to protect and preserve the unique lava formations in Idaho. The lava field is known for its rugged and alien-like terrain, and is home to a variety of wildlife and plants. The monument is also a popular destination for hikers, campers, and climbers.

The Idaho quarter is a symbol of the state's natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.
