Bond County is a county located in the southern region of the U.S. state of Illinois. Established in 1817, the county was named after Shadrach Bond, who was a veteran of the War of 1812 and served as the first Governor of Illinois (1818-1822). The county seat is Greenville, which was founded in 1815 and is the fourth-oldest city in Illinois.

Early in its history, Bond County was primarily inhabited by a variety of Native American tribes, such as the Kaskaskia and Peoria. European settlers, mostly of English and Scottish descent, began to establish themselves in the region in the early 1800s.

During the 19th and 20th centuries, the county's economy was primarily based on agriculture, with corn and wheat being the primary crops. The railroad industry also played a significant role in the county's development, with multiple rail lines passing through Greenville providing a means of transportation for goods and people.

One fun fact about Bond County is that it is home to the American Farm Heritage Museum, which showcases the agricultural history of the region and boasts a large collection of antique tractors and farm equipment dating back to the 1800s. Visitors to the museum can learn about farming techniques from the past, see various pieces of beautifully restored farm machinery, and even participate in interactive exhibits.
