Boone County, located in the northern region of the great state of Illinois, was first established on March 3, 1837. It was named in honor of Daniel Boone, the famous American frontiersman, and pioneer. The area comprises part of the Rockford, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area and is situated close to the Illinois-Wisconsin border.

Before European settlement, Boone County was inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi, Kaskaskia, and Kickapoo. The first European settlers arrived in the early 1830s, primarily from New England, New York, and the Mid-Atlantic states. These early settlers established the county's main townships, including Belvidere, Caledonia, and Poplar Grove. The residents of the county primarily worked in farming, and agriculture continues to be a significant industry in the area today.

One fun fact about Boone County is its connection to the automotive industry. Belvidere, the largest city in the county and its county seat, is home to the Belvidere Assembly Plant, which was initially built by Chrysler Corporation in 1965. The plant has produced various car models over the years, including the Dodge Neon, Jeep Compass, and Jeep Patriot. With its long history of vehicle manufacturing, Boone County strongly contributes to the automotive industry's growth in the nation.
