Cass County is located in the central-western part of the great state of Illinois, USA. Established on March 3, 1837, it was carved out of Morgan County and named in honor of Lewis Cass, a prominent American statesman, military commander, and presidential candidate. Cass served as Governor of the Michigan Territory, U.S. Senator from Michigan, and Secretary of War under President Andrew Jackson.

The county covers an area of approximately 384 square miles, with Virginia serving as the county seat. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Cass County played a prominent role in the agricultural development of Illinois, with many small towns and communities thriving on farming and related industries.

Cass County has a rich cultural heritage as well. Scots-Irish, German and Dutch immigrants settled in the county in significant numbers, leading to a diverse mix of traditions and customs. The county also has the distinction of being involved in the Underground Railroad, which helped slaves escape to freedom before the Civil War. The Indiantown Church, constructed in 1838, was an important station on the Underground Railroad and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

One fun fact about Cass County is the Beardstown Ladies a group of 16 women who formed an investment club in 1983. They went on to achieve national prominence due to their successful investment strategies, which outperformed many professional money managers. Their success led to the publication of several best-selling books, TV appearances, and speaking engagements, showcasing the prowess of these small-town investors.
