Lee County is located in the northern part of the great state of Illinois. Established on February 27, 1839, the county was named in honor of Henry Lee III, a distinguished Revolutionary War General known as "Light-Horse Harry." He was also the father of renowned Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Lee County was formed out of Ogle County and its creation was a result of the rapid growth and expansion of northern Illinois during that time.

Dixon, the county seat, is situated along the picturesque Rock River and has a significant history of its own. The city was initially named "Buffalo Ford" after the buffalo that once crossed the Rock River at this point, but later the name was changed to Dixon in honor of its founder, a man named John Dixon.

One fun fact about Lee County is that it is home to the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home in Dixon, which has been preserved as a historical site. Before becoming the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan lived in this home from 1920 to 1923. Visitors can tour the house and learn more about Reagan's formative years in this unique piece of American history.
