Adams County is located in northeastern Indiana and was officially established on March 1, 1836. The county was named in honor of the sixth President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. Covering an area of approximately 339 square miles, Adams County is bordered by Allen County to the north, Wells County to the east, Jay County to the south, and Van Wert County, Ohio, to the west.

In the 19th century, the region was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Miami and the Shawnee. European-American settlers, mostly of German and Swiss ancestry, began to make their way into the region in the early 1800s. The development of a prominent Amish community, which still exists to this day, began in the 1840s in the area.

Decatur is the county seat of Adams County, and over the years, it has evolved into a charming small city with a rich history. The county has an agricultural heritage, with farms producing corn, soybeans, wheat, and livestock. Manufacturing, education, and healthcare are some of the significant contributors to its economy.

A fun fact about Adams County is that it is home to the "World's Largest" Amish Chair, which stands 17 feet tall and can be found in Cal Adams Community Park in Monroe, Indiana. This attraction showcases the county's proud Amish heritage and skilled woodworking craftspeople.
