Harrison County, located in the southern part of Indiana, was officially established on December 1, 1808. It was named after General William Henry Harrison, who later became the ninth President of the United States. The county was formed from parts of Knox and Clark Counties and includes the city of Corydon, which served as the capital of the Indiana Territory and later as the first state capital from 1813 to 1825.

Harrison County has played a significant role in both territorial and state history. Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Shawnee. In the 18th century, the French and British established trading posts in the area, which led to an increased number of settlers. Following the American Revolutionary War, more European settlers migrated to the region, and tensions grew between settlers and Native Americans.

One fun fact about Harrison County is that it is home to the first battle site of the only Civil War skirmish that took place in Indiana: the Battle of Corydon, which occurred on July 9, 1863. During the battle, Confederate forces led by General John Hunt Morgan clashed with local militia before proceeding on the infamous raid known as Morgan's Raid. Today, visitors can explore the battle site and attend the annual reenactment of the event.
